(Goal Setting: Continued from page 3) few internal goals most any shooter can apply to improve their tournament performance: · Identify and correct any fundamental problems immediately. These may include gun fit, mount, stance, hold points, eye focal points, break points, or “reading” targets (sporting clays). Get ongoing professional help in identifying and fixing fundamental problems if needed. · Make the most of every practice session. Use practice to unveil any problem targets, and then make a commitment to solve these problems, through trial-and-error or through professional instruction. Don’t make the mistake of doing the same thing and missing the same targets over and over! · Develop a shooting plan/pre-shot routine and execute the plan with each and every shot. · Develop a pre-shoot plan including organization of gear prior to shoots, rest and nutrition. Cumulative-effort goals are goals that are based on several individual performances over the course of a season. These goals are usually a much better measure of success or failure since the “luck-factor” and our ability to execute 100% effort will be somewhat variable throughout the shooting season. Cumulative-effort goals should also be realistic based on our time and money commitments and each individual’s natural ability level (for example, not many D class shooters can make it to AA class in one season). Below are examples of cumulative-effort goals: · Earning X number of punches for the season · Moving up in class · Improving, or maintaining averages · Managing your lowest scores (this is related to average) |
