Todd Bender is undoubtedly one of the most successful  competitive skeet shooters of all time.  With several World Skeet championship titles to his credit, Todd is clearly one of the most consistent, perennial skeet champions from year to year.  Todd Bender is also an experienced skeet instructor.  When the National Skeet Shooting Association started their instructor certification program, Todd was appointed as the first NSSA Master Instructor.

Consistently successful skeet shooting (or any clay target shooting, for that matter) requires consistent execution of good fundamentals.  In his latest DVD, “Winning With the Fundamentals in Skeet”, Todd Bender and Sunrise Productions take a station, by station look at the proper fundamentals for successful skeet shooting.

One of the most useful aspects of this video is footage taken from the “Eye-cam”.  The Eye-cam is a small video camera mounted in a position to film from behind the gun.  The footage the viewer sees is essentially the same thing seen by Todd Bender.  The primary advantage of this is that the viewer can better understand what sustained lead

sight pictures really look like from the various skeet stations.  Through my own instructing, I have found sustained lead is one of the most difficult things to teach wing-shooters with little prior target shooting experience.  Oftentimes, these students tend to look at the barrel to “measure” the amount of lead resulting in stopping of the gun and missing the target behind.  Watching this video could benefit those students struggling with the concepts of sustained lead.

The bulk of this 100 minute video is spent looking at a station, by station approach to the game.  At each station, Todd explains foot-positions, hold points, where to look for the target (focal points), lead requirements and break points.  With each shot, the viewer is given a form shot of Todd, an over-the-shoulder view and an Eye-cam view (both real time and slow motion).  The DVD version displays a full menu when inserted into the DVD player so the viewer can go directly to any given station.

Given the amount of material and excellent film-work put into this video, “Winning With the Fundamentals in Skeet” sells for about $60 and should be of interest to both novice and experienced skeet shooters alike and will be one you will watch several times over.  The video can be ordered online at www.sunrisevideo.com or by calling 1-800-862-6399.
