Central Iowa Hunter’s Safety Courses

Hunter education is a mandatory program that is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to the many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities.  Iowa law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1967 must be certified in hunter education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license.  For more information, please visit the Iowa DNR website.  For class dates and locations, please check the Calendar of Events section of the Wing and Clay Flyer.

(Skeet Doubles: Continued from page 7)

· target rather than looking to the opposite side of the gun.  First, find the second target with the eyes, THEN move the gun to the bird.

· Head on the gun.  The primary reason the second target in doubles is missed is due to head lifting.  Practice moving your eyes independent of the gun and work on staying in the gun through the second shot.

To shoot doubles well, it is essential to practice doubles (sounds simple enough, but I am amazed by how little most people practice doubles).  If you are serious about competing, I would recommend shooting two rounds of doubles from 3, 4 and 5 at the end of your regular 100 target (or more) practice session.  Doubles practice at this time will best simulate registered shoot conditions since you will likely be a little tired from the regular practice, much like in a tournament shoot after already shooting a couple events.
